Trish Gordon
Owner and Pastry Chef
Sugar Pine Bake Shop

Baking really seems like magic to me. Combine flour, sugar, butter & eggs (and a few other ingredients) and presto – cookies, cinnamon buns or cake ready to tempt and please. As a bartender in college, I would whip up a batch of scones in my little apartment kitchen – using two butter knives and a soup bowl and delight in the smiles on my co-workers faces. I realized what a simple sweet gift baking could be.

My love affair grew from there, and when my husband and I bought a bed and breakfast, I really came in to my own. I had willing guinea pigs every morning who eagerly tested each new recipe I might be playing with. Baking depends on science but, it’s also an art and the artist in me who had been struggling to find expression finally found an outlet with baking.

Flash forward seven years and I started playing with the outsides of cakes, enjoying the different textures of fondant and buttercream and gumpaste and the edible sculpture I created. The best part – people got to EAT it! And now, three years later, the next step in this sweet dream – opening a bakery in Big Bear Lake: the Sugar Pine Bake Shop.

The bakery offers a way to combine all the things I love about what I do: little sweet treats to brighten someone’s day, artisan breads that satisfy the soul and grander confections to commemorate a special occasion. We bake from scratch, with good wholesome ingredients to create a real food that even though it might be a bit of an indulgence, satisfies in so many ways, its well worth it.
